1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how CBT Without a Therapist (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the website at cbtwithai.com and our related tools — the thought journal, exercises, courses, and AI guide “Helpy” (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
CBT Without a Therapist is a self-help tool. It is not a medical or therapy service and does not provide medical care, diagnosis, or treatment. Helpy is an AI guide, not a therapist, and the Service is not a substitute for a licensed professional. It is not meant for emergencies. If you’re in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: the email address you use to register, and basic profile details you choose to provide.
- Content you create: your thought-journal entries, exercise responses, mood check-ins, quiz and test results, and the messages you send to the AI guide, Helpy.
- Payment information: when you buy Full Access, payment is processed by our third-party seller, Lemon Squeezy (see Section 5). We do not collect or store your card number or other full payment-card details.
- Usage and device data: basic analytics such as pages viewed, features used, approximate device and browser type, and similar technical information, collected to help us understand and improve the Service.
- Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account;
- generate AI responses and personalized exercises and feedback based on your entries;
- process your purchase and provide access to paid features;
- improve, troubleshoot, and develop new features;
- keep the Service secure and prevent fraud or abuse;
- respond to your requests and provide support; and
- send you important account or service messages, and (with your consent where required) updates about the Service.
4. How your information is stored
Your account, journal entries, chat messages, and quiz results are stored using Firebase, a cloud platform provided by Google (authentication, database, and hosting). Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider, subject to its own security and privacy commitments. Your journal entries and conversations with Helpy are available to you within your account.
5. Payments
Full Access is a one-time $29 purchase. Our order process is handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record for purchases made through the Service. This means Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record and handles billing, payment processing, sales tax and VAT, invoices, and refunds. When you make a purchase, you provide your payment details directly to Lemon Squeezy, and your payment is processed under Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy. We receive a confirmation of your purchase and limited order details (such as your email and the fact that you purchased), but we do not receive or store your full payment-card information.
6. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to run the Service, and only with parties who are bound to protect it:
- Service providers who help us operate the Service — for example Google Firebase (hosting, authentication, and database), Lemon Squeezy (payments and order processing), AI providers that process your chat messages to generate Helpy’s responses, and analytics providers.
- Legal and safety reasons — when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or us.
- Business transfers — if the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it. You can delete your content or close your account at any time.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy of it, and to opt out of certain uses. To exercise any of these rights — or to access or delete your data — email us at support@cbtwithai.com. You can also access and edit much of your content directly within your account. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
10. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults 18 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
11. International users
The Service is operated from, and intended for users in, the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, and we will indicate the effective date of the latest version above. Material changes will take effect when posted.
